'Disturbed But Entertained'

On Wednesday 18th December, staff and students at Buxton community school witnessed a sight previously unheard of within the confines of the BCS sixth form, as Cruse’s drag race 2019 contestants Billy Brocklehurst, Abbie Stanway, Jacob Lumbert, Jack Flint, Dean Hope, James Johnson & Thomas Broadley let go of their fears (and most of their dignity) as they paraded in front of a thrilled crowd of onlookers while dressed as women, battling it out to become drag race champion 2019. After some speculation over whether anyone would actually do it or not, the 7-strong gang of girls did their forms proud as they laid down their sense of shame and slipped into their high heels, all in the name of an inter-form challenge.

After a solo catwalk from each of the ladies, the audience staged a public vote to choose their finalists, who were decided to be Madame Regina Bang-Bang (Thomas Broadley) and the fearsome Orgasma Bush (Jack Flint), one of whom looked more comfortable with the proceedings than the other. After a fairly biased lip-sync battle, the expert panel of judges (Miss Cruse & Alex Beresford) decided that Bang-Bang was the winner of the day, and presented her with the top prize of a matching tiara, ring and earring set, two of which broke before the packaging had even been opened. But it’s the taking part that counts.

After the rousing success of Cruse’s seminal drag race, many have already begun preparations for next year, and the onlookers are hungry for more wigs, clashes and previously hidden emerging personalities than ever before. Members of the audience were said to be ‘disturbed but entertained.’
