On the 16th January, sixth form students showed their... 'interesting' take on the Great British Bake Off with their show-stopping mains and desserts.

Judges: Mr Lomas, Miss Cruse, Mrs Pickford and Mrs Smith conducted a taste test on a gob-smacking amount of foods, ranging from omelettes to stuffed peppers along with many toad-in-the-holes throughout the day.

Year 12 spent the day cooking a variety of dishes in two groups from the morning and in the afternoon.

In the morning: Harry Beal, Ruben Carroll, Jack Flint and Harry Walters achieved 1st place with their chicken katsu curry, apple crumble, and with their obstacles, strawberry tarts! A close runner up was Faye Davies, Ellie

Higgins-Brown, Maisy Needham and Joe Mycock, who made butternut squash curry with homemade naan bread along with strawberry jelly and apple crumble (with homemade custard!) With their surprise ingredients, a leek, strawberry jelly and Rice Krispies, they made jelly, salt and pepper leeks and crushed the Rice Krispies into their crumble.

In the afternoon, after many questionable dishes, Freya Taylor, Zoe Worth, Abbi Limer and Heather Wilshaw positioned themselves in 1st place with their stuffed peppers and sweet potato wedges, along with banana pancakes with chocolate and meringue! Their surprise ingredients were dumplings, which they included in their main course. In 2nd place came Bella Hollamby, Ellie Bagshaw, Chloe Foster and Natasha Birch, who made risotto and apple crumble with custard! Their additional ingredients were a courgette and instant custard powder.

Overall, the day was successful and I'm sure that all judges were utterly stuffed afterwards!
