On Tuesday, 3rd March, Mrs Waller, Mrs Hall, Mrs Barn

well and year 12 students went to the UCAS exhibition in Manchester to learn more about universities and their courses. Students had an hour and 45 minutes to explore.

At the convention, there were over 100 universities; each had a stall with representatives (students and/or staff) willing to answer any questions you had. They scanned your tickets in order for the university to keep in contact with you via email, letting you know about upcoming open days and events. In addition, there was information provided about apprenticeships and student life. Also, each stand had not only prospectuses, but also a number of freebies including water bottles, bags, pens and chocolate.

I asked some students about the trip. Kate Robson said “I thought it was very helpful. It made me realise that I definitely do want to go to university.”

“Loved it, was able to get lots of information,” said Isla Malczak, who is interested in going into clinical psychology in the future.

Ellie Higgins-Brown said, “It was really fun and an eye opener on what is available outside our country.”

I asked Heather Wilshaw what she took from the trip and she replied “I went focused on going to one university, but came away with many possible options – which were great. It gave me better insight into university life and new courses I had never heard of before.”
